Teeth Whitening

A middle aged woman with a bright, white smileDo you want a whiter, brighter smile? Yellowed teeth are never a pretty sight. Our teeth can become stained from normal daily use. Some patients find that these stains can be made worse from habits including drinking coffee, tea, or smoking. If you are like most, you have found yourself wondering if over the counter teeth whitening products really work and if they're worth the cost. Our dentists at A Smiling Heart Dentistry offer both in office and at home teeth whitening options. Working with our office means that we will answer your questions and monitor your progress. Additionally, at-home whitening contains from 3% to 20% peroxide, where in-office we are able to increase that amount to 15% to 43% peroxide depending on your needs. Bleaching is for your teeth and will not whiten porcelain crowns, tooth colored fillings or bondings.

Our At-Home Teeth Whitening Process

Our at-home whitening process lets you control your results. This is not the same as typical over the counter treatments. We offer you an at home kit that is designed for you, not a one size fits all remedy. We create a tray that closely fits to the size of your mouth based off a mold. You are sent home with the tray and a whitening gel that has been approved by one of our dentists, Drs. Tigran, Furca, and Smith. At home, you control how much whitening you desire. You can wear the tray with the gel for half an hour each day or sleep with it for one or two nights. You decide when you have the results you desire.

Our In-Office Teeth Whitening Process

With our in-office whitening process you get results quickly. We take care of the work for you and most patients are done in about an hour. Under our dentists' observation, we use a much stronger gel. This gel is applied to whiten the front eight teeth up to ten shades brighter than they currently are.

Ways to Avoid Teeth Staining

By avoiding certain foods and drinks, you can help keep your teeth white. Foods that are acidic and have tannin cause staining. These include:
•  Teas
•  Coffee
•  Wine, both red and white wine
•  Sports and energy drinks
•  Berries
•  Carbonated beverages, surprisingly both dark and light colored soda
•  Sauces including soy, curry and tomato sauces

Tooth bleaching may make your teeth temporarily sensitive, especially for people who already have sensitive teeth. There is also the possibility of home kits burning your gums. Please follow the instructions given and follow with care.
