Dental Examinations

One of the beautiful operatories that you may have your dental exam in at A Smiling Heart DentistryRegular dental exams with our dentists, Drs. Tigran, Furca, and Smith, help protect your oral health and overall well being. Dental exams give us an opportunity to provide advice on caring for your teeth and allows us to detect any problems. Consistent dental check-ups help us catch problems when they are easier to treat. If problems are ignored, small treatable problems become worse and may require larger, uncomfortable and expensive procedures to repair. Your dental exam begins with a cleaning from the dental hygienist. Starting with a clean mouth, one of our dentists will identify gum inflammation, risk of developing decay, bone loss, and any abnormalities.

Dental examinations generally include:

•  Inquiry about your overall health. We may ask what medications you are taking, if you are diabetic or have heart disease and if you smoke.
•  Tooth decay evaluation.
•  Evaluation if tooth restoration is needed.
•  Checking your alignment for bite problems.
•  Inspecting for signs of gum disease, which may include inflamed gums that bleed easily.
•  Gum pocket measurement and tracking, which helps us determine if your gums are receding from your teeth.
•  Dental x-rays help us to see unseen problems like tooth decay, cysts, tumors, or other problems below the gumline.
•  Screening for abnormalities and oral cancer.
•  Demonstrating proper daily hygiene techniques.
•  Checking any prosthetics, such as dentures or bridges, and discussing the need for adjustments.

Dental exams may also include information about diet, smoking, and other lifestyle habits that affect oral health. Contact our Bellevue office today for more information at (425) 558-9998.
