Dental Bridges
Bellevue, WA

Rendering of a jaw with a dental bridge from A Smiling Heart Dentistry in Bellevue, WASometimes, if you are missing only one or two teeth, you might not think that it’s that big of a deal. The truth is, though, that even a single missing tooth can have a significant impact. Missing teeth make simple, everyday tasks, like eating and speaking, difficult. Depending upon the location of the missing tooth, it can even impact your smile, and therefore your confidence. At A Smiling Heart Dentistry, our goal is to provide you with the best oral care possible, so your mouth can remain healthy and happy. Bridges can be a great answer to a missing tooth or two.

What is a Dental Bridge?

A bridge is a dental appliance that “bridges” the gap between two healthy teeth in your mouth. It can be used to replace one or more (usually no more than three) consecutive missing teeth. The bridge is held in place by two crowns, between the area where the pontic (or false) teeth sit. Typically, bridges are made from ceramic, which provides the most natural finished appearance. Once the bridge is in place, it will be difficult for anyone to notice its presence. They will only notice your beautiful smile.

How are Dental Bridges Placed?

Usually, bridges are a two-visit procedure. During your first visit, your abutment teeth, or the teeth that will be holding the crowns, are prepared or shaved down to make room for the appliance. Impressions are taken, and a guide used to match the color of your teeth. This information is sent to a lab, which custom creates your bridge. Your second visit is where the permanent bridge is cemented in place. At A Smiling Heart Dentistry, we use CEREC technology, which can be used to create your bridge chairside, while you wait.

Caring for Your Bridge

Once your bridge is in place, you can care for it just like you do your natural teeth. Brushing and flossing are still an important routine to be in the habit of. Just because a bridge can’t experience tooth decay, it can still hold plaque buildup and bacteria, which can otherwise lead to gum disease. Regular brushing and flossing keep this issue at bay. It is also important to come into the office twice a year for regular cleanings and exams, during which we can assess the condition of your bridge and ensure that it is in perfect working order.

Dental Bridge Benefits

A dental bridge offers several benefits:
•  Improved eating.
•  Improved speech.
•  A bridge helps to keep your bite evenly distributed, which prevents uneven wear on your natural teeth, or damage to the bridge.
•  Your teeth are held in place, rather than shifting into the space left behind by missing teeth.
•  Because they are made from ceramic, bridges blend in perfectly with the rest of your natural teeth, meaning that no one will be able to tell that it is there.
•  You regain a full, beautiful smile. Moreover, a full smile can restore your confidence once again.

If you are missing one or two teeth, a bridge could be the perfect option to fill the gaps left behind. Call A Smiling Heart Dentistry today at (425) 558-9998 to learn more or to schedule your consultation.
