A dental implant is a ceramic or metal post that our dentists, Drs. Tigran, Furca, and Smith, implant to serve as a root for a missing tooth. Implants are a great option for replacing single, multiple, or even a whole mouth of missing teeth. Many options exist but only one, dental implants, provides the function and appearance of your natural teeth. The post is surgically placed into the jawbone where the tooth is missing, providing a permanent solution. The implant process consists of three pieces, the ceramic post, an abutment that is screwed into the post, and then a crown which is placed on top. If you are having an All on Four procedure done, we are able to replace a full arch of teeth with four ceramic devices.
Dental implants are like real teeth!
Implants are another option when considering conventional bridges or dentures, dental implants offer a smile that looks and feels very natural. Implants are surgically placed below the gums over a series of appointments, and fuse to the jawbone. We use ceramic, made of zirconium oxide, which is biocompatible to you. With time, your bone will blend this device into its tissue through a process called osseointegration. Once fused to your bone, the post is a strong, stable, and integrated part of your body. Integration of the implants into your jaw also helps your replacement teeth feel more natural, and some people also find the secure fit more comfortable than conventional substitutes. After surgery we place a temporary crown onto the device which our patients wear during the healing time. We then place a more permanent dental crown on it, giving you a strong tooth. Candidates for dental implants must have healthy gums and adequate bone to support the implant.
Reasons for Dental Implants
There are other benefits to implants besides replacing a missing tooth:
•
Prevent your teeth from shifting by filling that gap.
•
Correct any bite issues due to missing teeth.
•
Correct any jaw alignment issues from teeth shifting.
•
Improve your appearance by filling the gap and preventing bone atrophy.
•
Help in the placement of a denture or partial by providing an anchor.
•
Implants do not depend on neighboring teeth for structural support and cannot get cavities.
•
Implants are the closest dental structure in durability to natural teeth.
What A Dental Implant Involves
•
Site Preparation:
Once healthy bone has been established, a special drill is used to prepare the bone to receive the implant. Sometimes we may recommend bone grafting.
•
Placing the Dental Implant:
The implant is placed into the prepared bone and the tissue is sutured.
•
Attaching the Post:
When the gum tissue has healed, a special post is attached to the implant, and is the support for the new porcelain crown.
•
Placing the Dental Crown:
We have a crown made and shaded to match your existing teeth. The crown is then slipped over the post and cemented.
How Effective are Dental Implants?
Dental implants have the highest rate of effectiveness of any other tooth replacement solution. Current information tells us that there is a 95% success rate for dental implants, and the number of patients receiving them is growing. The American Academy of Implant Dentistry tell us that dentists place 500,000 implants in the United States annually, and the popularity is increasing. There is a high rate of failure of implants in patients who smoke, so dental implants tend to not be an option for patients who are actively smoking. We will help you determine whether dental implants will be a good tooth replacement option for you. Proper brushing and flossing will maximize the longevity of your new dental implant.
Ceramic implants that are made of zirconium oxide (also called zirconium oxide implants) can be an absolute alternative to the frequently used titanium implants for people with intolerances. The gums grow onto this metal-free implants solution particularly well, closing the gap for any bacteria that could enter the blood circulation by the gums. In addition, ceramic implants do not release any particles into the tissue, eliminating the risk of allergies or intolerances developing. Due to the good level of tolerance it is no longer possible to imagine biological dentistry without the use of ceramics as an implant's material.
The Durability of Ceramic Implants
Studies show that, after 10 years, 80 to 90 percent of ceramic implants are still fully functional. However, their durability largely depends on how well the ceramic zirconium oxide implants are cared for. Therefore, we highly recommend paying special attention to oral hygiene and seeking treatment immediately if there is any inflammation or diseases that occur.
Full dentures is a difficult life decision. We now have another option that would give you much more freedom. A system called, Teeth in a Day, or, All on Four, is just that. We are able to give you a full arch of teeth that is attached with four Implants giving you a solid, strong, and permanent row of false teeth that no one ever has to know about. These teeth will never get a cavity, and they will never feel or be loose in your mouth. You do not have to change your eating habits as you would with dentures.

Can I walk into the office toothless and leave with full mouth of teeth?
The answer to this is Yes! Using our computer guided technology and 3D imaging we are able to find the location of the best bone and using a guide, know the location and best angle to place the implants.
