Foods that Remove Dental Stains When Eaten

Posted on 10/19/2020 by Tigran Khachatryan
Foods that Remove Dental Stains When EatenWhile some foods can cause dental stains when you eat them, others can actually prevent them, which is good to know if you want to avoid eating foods that either erode the teeth or stain the surface. The following information details what to eat to prevent problems with discoloration or stains.

What Foods Whiten or Brighten the Teeth?

Some foods naturally whiten the teeth because you need a longer time to chew them. When this happens, it stimulates the flow of saliva, which removes surface stains and whitens the teeth. For example, one of the foods that is good for whitening the teeth is cauliflower. While you may not want to eat the veggie raw, you can still chew quite a bit of the vegetable if it has been steamed for a short time. Strawberries also whiten the teeth. That is because the berries contain malic acid, which naturally gives teeth a whiter appearance. While most other berries can stain the teeth, you don't have to worry about this happening if you eat strawberries.

Foods that Clean and Strengthen the Teeth

One of the foods that strengthens the teeth with calcium and whitens them at the same time is cheese. You can also receive this benefit from other calcium-rich foods, such as yogurt, cottage cheese, and milk. A natural tooth scrubber, apples also brighten the smile. Celery has the same claim to dental fame as well. In fact, any crisp fruit or raw veggie, such as carrots, apples, or celery, clean away plaque and freshen the breath. The foods contain antioxidants, including vitamin C, which protect the teeth and gums from bacterial infections and cellular damage.

We like to think of ourselves as dental coaches to our patients. Therefore, we hope you can receive the needed encouragement from some of the tips we offer. If you have not had your teeth cleaned in while, why not give us a call? Regular professional cleanings will also ensure that you will maintain a brighter and whiter smile.
